Days Out: Zip Trek Park Aviemore

Glide through the pine forests of the Alvie Estate with this outdoor adventure park. You’ll cruise high in the trees, over icy waterfalls and past rocky cliffs.

There are two courses available: the classic Zip Trek, and the self-guided Zip Adventure. Both zip wire experiences fly over the Alvie Gorge with spectacular views of the Cairngorms National Park and the Caledonian Pine Forest.

The original Zip Trek consists of fourteen wires spanning over 2km of forest. If you choose this option you’ll be accompanied by one of the local Zip Guides, to show you how to apply the brakes on the longest wires. This course is suitable for ages 8 and over and under 13s must be accompanies by an adult.

The Zip Adventure is a self-guided trip, so you’ll have the space and time to zip along at your leisure. The course is more physically challenging than the Zip Trek with spectacular zip wires and small platforms high in the trees to test your nerve. The new safety system means you are permanently attached to the course while you move through the wires independently. This option is suitable for ages ten and over, and under 13s must be accompanied by an adult on the course. 

For those seeking a bit more of an adrenaline rush, there’s the magical Night Zip – available between November and February each year. Take the adventure zip to a whole new level with a fully floodlit forest of light. You’ll fly through the colourful Caledonian forest using the self-guided Zip Adventure course, starting and finishing at the G2 Outdoor base on Alvie Estate.

Needless to say, the Night Zip requires warm, windproof and waterproof clothing, and some footwear with decent grip. We did the Night Zip this winter and can confirm it’s pretty special! This option is suitable for people aged 10 and over.
