Explore: Uath Lochans

There’s nothing quite like a stroll beneath the snow-capped mountains of the Cairngorms and the light up here in the Highlands is so magical year-round. We’ve got cosy log burners in both Springfield House and Railway Cottage so after a day of exploring you can treat yourself to a night in front of the fire.

We highly recommend a stroll around the stunning Uath Lochans, a collection of four small lochs hidden within the ancient pines of Glen Feshie. There are two routes you can take from the car park – both easy to follow with either a red or a white marker post.

This is a great walk for just about everyone. You can take it easy by following the white marker posts and staying around the edge of the lochans - great if you have dogs who like to jump in the water, or even if you are a wild swimmer yourself. You’ll follow a flat path, with a few boardwalks for boggier bits. (Bring wellies.)

The colours running through this hidden forest are stunning all year round but particularly during autumn when we see the stunning the palette of warm yellows, reds and greens.

We took the red route along the wooded rim of Farleitter Crag and up to the top of the hill for superb views over the four lochans. It’s probably an hour and a half of steady walking, with plenty of stops to take photos, or take a break on one of the benches. On a good day you may even spot a red squirrel or two, leaping among the trees. Both the red and the white route take you back to the car park where there are picnic tables for some al fresco dining (weather permitting).
